Telangana releases ₹54 crore for midday meal scheme and pending egg bills

Hyderabad: The Telangana government announced a major relief for midday meal organisers in government schools across the state. It released new funds under the PM Poshan (Midday Meal) scheme to cover cooking expenses for Classes 9 and 10 students.

Dr Naveen Nicholas, Director of School Education, said the government sanctioned ₹28.43 crore for this purpose. The funds will cover pending bills and cooking costs till April 2025. They will also include allocations for June and July 2025 in the 2025–26 financial year.

Funds released for various school categories

The government divided the amount among different categories of schools. It allotted ₹18.88 crore to General (GEN) schools, ₹5.84 crore to Scheduled Caste (SC) schools, and ₹3.70 crore to Scheduled Tribe (ST) schools.

Officials said the funds will help schools manage daily cooking needs smoothly. They added that this release will support organisers waiting for reimbursement since the start of the term.

₹25.64 crore cleared for pending egg bills

The state also cleared ₹25.64 crore in pending bills for eggs supplied under the Midday Meal Scheme. The decision came on the instructions of Dr Naveen Nicholas. It covered April, June, and July 2025 under the 2025–26 financial year.

Officials said the move will help local suppliers recover dues quickly. It will also ensure a steady egg supply for students, improving nutrition and meal quality across schools.
