Hyderabad: Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy invited Philippines Agriculture Secretary Francisco P. Tiu Laurel Jr to attend the Telangana Rising Summit scheduled in Hyderabad in December 2026.
Uttam Kumar Reddy extended the invitation during a meeting with Laurel in New Delhi on Wednesday. The Philippines Agriculture Secretary responded positively to the invitation, according to the Minister.
The meeting also focused on substantially increasing rice exports from Telangana to the Philippines. Both sides discussed expanding agricultural trade and developing a long-term commercial partnership.
Uttam Kumar Reddy explained Telangana’s agricultural production capacity, product quality and export potential to Laurel. He also outlined investment opportunities in the State and the objectives of the Telangana Rising Summit.
Telangana Rising Summit talks focus on rice exports
Uttam Kumar Reddy said Laurel responded positively to exploring opportunities for large-scale purchases of rice from Telangana. The discussions covered ways to expand Telangana’s rice exports to the Philippines and strengthen agricultural trade between the two sides.
Moreover, Laurel expressed interest in purchasing quality meat products produced in Telangana, according to the Minister. He also showed interest in procuring high-quality seeds from the State.
Uttam Kumar Reddy said Telangana’s agricultural products had the production capacity and quality required to secure a stronger position in international markets. The State government aimed to open international markets for grain produced by Telangana farmers, he said.
“Opening the doors of international markets to grain produced by Telangana farmers is our government’s objective,” Uttam Kumar Reddy said.
He said expanded rice exports could help farmers secure better prices. In addition, such trade could create opportunities for rice millers, seed companies, meat producers and food-processing industries.
The government was working to transform agriculture from merely a source of livelihood into a profitable economic activity connected with global markets, he said.
Telangana Rising Summit seeks international partnerships
Uttam Kumar Reddy said the Telangana Rising Summit would provide an international platform for the State’s development ambitions. The summit was planned as part of efforts to position Telangana as a major destination for global investment, agricultural trade and industrial opportunities.
The Minister expressed confidence that the event could lay the foundation for new Telangana-Philippines partnerships. He identified agriculture, food processing, seed production, exports, technology and investment as potential areas for cooperation between Telangana and the Philippines.
The discussions with Laurel also sought to expand the international market for Telangana’s agricultural products. Uttam Kumar Reddy said stronger export opportunities could benefit farmers as well as businesses involved in rice milling, seeds, meat production and food processing.
The proposed partnership would focus on leveraging Telangana’s agricultural production capacity and quality standards while building longer-term trade relations with the Philippines.
