Parliament: Priyanka Gandhi backs Telangana Congress MPs protest over urea shortage

Hyderabad: Telangana Congress MPs staged a protest in the Parliament premises demanding immediate resolution of the urea shortage faced by farmers in the state. The agitation drew support from party leader Priyanka Gandhi, who vowed that the Congress would continue its fight for the rights of Telangana farmers. She said the issue would also be raised during Zero Hour.

The MPs alleged that the Centre was discriminating against Telangana farmers by withholding the state’s rightful share of urea. They accused the Union government of diverting fertilizer stocks to BJP-ruled states, leaving Telangana cultivators in distress during the sowing season.

Telangana Congress MPs demand 3 lakh tonnes of urea supply

Telangana Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao held discussions with the MPs in Delhi and urged them to strongly confront the Centre over the supply delays. On Monday, the MPs submitted a representation to Union Chemicals and Fertilizers Minister J.P. Nadda, demanding immediate allocation of 3 lakh tonnes of urea to the state. They said the Centre had failed to deliver supplies proportionate to its own allocation commitments.
