Hyderabad: Government Whip and MLC Dr. Addanki Dayakar and TPCC Vice President Hanumandla Jhansi Reddy sought an immediate Telangana NRI Commission. They submitted a formal representation to Chief Minister Revanth Reddy seeking a dedicated body for Telangana citizens living overseas.
Dayakar, who holds State Minister status, joined Jhansi Reddy in making the request. Jhansi Reddy is also the Palakurthi constituency in-charge. The leaders said the proposed commission should protect NRI interests and address their grievances through a permanent mechanism.
They highlighted the role of Telangana NRIs living in the USA, Gulf countries, Europe, Australia and Canada. They also referred to Telangana citizens living in other parts of the world. According to them, NRIs contributed to state development through investments, remittances, technology transfer and philanthropy.
They said overseas Telangana citizens also supported education and healthcare. However, NRIs and their families faced several problems in Telangana. These included property disputes, land issues, documentation hurdles, fraudulent transactions and family emergencies.
The leaders also cited difficulties in securing legal assistance and coordinating with government departments. Such coordination could become particularly difficult during crises involving Telangana citizens overseas. Therefore, they proposed a permanent single-window mechanism connecting NRIs with the state government.
The proposed body would establish a dedicated grievance redressal system and offer legal and property-related assistance. It would also seek to protect NRI assets against fraudulent transactions and exploitation. In addition, it would provide immediate guidance during international emergencies.
Telangana NRI Commission to build global coordination network
The Telangana NRI Commission would also coordinate overseas Telangana associations with state government departments. The proposal envisaged promoting NRI investments, entrepreneurship, technology transfer and tourism through a transparent single-window framework. It would also support initiatives involving education, healthcare and philanthropy.
Another proposed responsibility was the creation of a comprehensive global NRI database and communication network. The commission would maintain coordination with the Government of India, Indian Embassies, Consulates and foreign community organisations. It would also conduct periodic NRI meetings and consultations to identify community concerns and gather feedback.
Dayakar and Jhansi Reddy said several other Indian states had already created dedicated systems for NRIs. They said Telangana could develop a model suited to its expanding global community. According to them, an effective commission could help attract investments, knowledge, technology, employment opportunities and international partnerships.
The leaders said their team was ready to meet NRI representatives over the proposed structure and responsibilities. Such discussions would also cover a framework for resolving grievances. They appealed to the Chief Minister to respond positively and take prompt action to strengthen ties between the Telangana government and its global diaspora.
