Hyderabad: Telangana Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister Capt. N. Uttam Kumar Reddy on Monday said Telangana and Karnataka held positive Krishna river water talks on irrigation and drinking water usage.
He stated that both states would coordinate while protecting their respective interests and future water requirements.
The Minister said the two governments would work towards an agreement that safeguards the interests of Telangana and Karnataka.
Karnataka Minor Irrigation Minister Boseraju met Uttam Kumar Reddy at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Secretariat to discuss Krishna river water utilisation and irrigation projects.
Excise Minister Jupally Krishna Rao, Sports Minister Vakiti Srihari and State Planning Commission Vice-Chairman G. Chinna Reddy attended the meeting.
Raichur MP G. Kumar Naik, Nagarkurnool MP Mallu Ravi and legislators from the erstwhile Palamuru region also participated in the discussions.
Senior irrigation officials from Telangana and Karnataka attended the meeting along with technical experts.
Krishna river water talks focus on irrigation projects
Speaking after the meeting, Uttam Kumar Reddy said both states held discussions in a friendly atmosphere with mutual understanding.
He stated that future policies would benefit both Telangana and Karnataka.
According to the Minister, Telangana explained proposals that protect the state’s irrigation and drinking water interests without affecting its legal rights.
The two sides also held detailed discussions on technical aspects related to the proposed barrage construction on the Krishna river.
Uttam Kumar Reddy said the discussions focused on safeguarding Telangana’s irrigation and drinking water rights and addressing future requirements.
He added that Telangana presented proposals aimed at finding a permanent solution to drinking water issues through interstate coordination.
Krishna river water talks prioritise Telangana farmers
The Minister said the discussions gave full priority to the irrigation requirements of Telangana farmers.
He stated that both states discussed Krishna water utilisation comprehensively while ensuring that state rights remain protected.
According to Uttam Kumar Reddy, the discussions aimed to create mutually beneficial solutions for irrigation and drinking water needs in both states.
He also said the details of the meeting would be conveyed to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy before taking a final collective decision.
