N Ramchander Rao targets Congress over grain procurement delays

Hyderabad: Telangana BJP president N Ramchander Rao on Monday accused the Congress government of causing grain procurement delays and neglecting farmers across the state.

Addressing the media during the “Raithu Gosa – BJP Bharosa” Yatra in Parigi of Vikarabad district, Rao alleged that procurement centres lacked basic facilities despite government assurances.

A BJP delegation led by Rao visited the Parigi Agricultural Procurement Centre at Kulkacharla and interacted with farmers regarding procurement-related problems.

He alleged that heaps of paddy remained unattended at procurement centres while farmers waited for procurement operations to move forward.

According to Rao, farmers faced severe difficulties due to shortages of tarpaulins and gunny bags.

He also claimed that delayed transportation and slow weighing procedures worsened the situation at procurement centres.

Rao alleged that several farmers waited for nearly 10 to 15 days to sell their produce at procurement centres.

He further accused government officials of speeding up procurement activities only after learning about the BJP delegation’s visit.

According to him, officials shifted grain bags to rice millers early in the morning to create an impression that procurement operations were functioning smoothly.

BJP leaders claimed that farmers complained about hardships and delays in receiving support for their produce.

The Telangana BJP launched the three-day “Raithu Gosa – BJP Bharosa” campaign to assess procurement problems and highlight farmers’ grievances across districts.

The BJP said the campaign would continue in different districts to gather feedback from farmers affected by procurement delays.
