Telangana Health Minister felicitates NIMS team for 2,000 kidney transplants

Hyderabad: Telangana Health Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha felicitated doctors, nurses, technicians and support staff after kidney transplants crossed the 2,000 mark at Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS).

The Minister attended a special programme at NIMS on Saturday as the chief guest. According to him, the completion of 2,000 kidney transplant surgeries marked a major achievement for Telangana’s public healthcare sector.

He congratulated the medical teams for reaching the milestone through sustained effort and commitment. Meanwhile, he said government hospitals in Telangana were delivering healthcare services on par with corporate hospitals under the leadership of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy.

Earlier, kidney transplantation remained limited to patients who could afford expensive treatment. However, the Telangana Government now provides free organ transplant services to poor patients under the Rajiv Aarogyasri scheme.

NIMS kidney transplants strengthen public healthcare services

In addition, Damodar Rajanarasimha said the government provides lifelong post-operative medicines free of cost to transplant patients. He added that Telangana was building a complete kidney care system that covered dialysis and transplantation services.

At present, more than 100 dialysis centres are functioning across the state. Besides this, authorities are establishing another 79 dialysis centres.

Meanwhile, Gandhi Hospital and Osmania General Hospital are strengthening organ transplant services alongside NIMS. Recently, the government inaugurated the State Organ Transplant Centre at Gandhi Hospital.

Further, the Minister said the Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences (TIMS), Sanathnagar, was being developed as a Centre of Excellence for organ transplantation.
