Telangana govt shifts Bakrid holiday to May 28, 2026

Hyderabad: The Telangana government shifted the Telangana Bakrid holiday from May 27, 2026, to May 28, 2026, under the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881. Authorities will now observe the Eid-ul-Azha (Bakrid) holiday on Thursday across the state.

The government revised an earlier notification that had fixed the holiday on May 27. Officials took the decision after the Telangana Wakf Board and the Minorities Welfare Department submitted representations seeking a change in the date.

Chief Executive Officer of the Telangana Wakf Board M. Saleem wrote to the government requesting the revision. The Minorities Welfare Department later forwarded the matter for consideration.

Telangana Bakrid holiday revised after Wakf Board request

The General Administration Department modified the earlier orders issued in G.O.Rt.No.1716 dated December 6, 2025. The revised notification declared May 28, 2026, as the official holiday for Eid-ul-Azha instead of May 27, 2026.

The government will publish the revised Telangana Bakrid holiday notification in an extraordinary issue of the Telangana Gazette. Officials also circulated the order to district collectors, government departments, constitutional authorities and financial institutions.

Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao issued the order on May 22, 2026.
