Hyderabad: Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla said a healthy society foundation was essential for building a strong nation and noted that the Union government was giving top priority to strengthening the healthcare sector under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The Governor made the remarks while addressing the Healthcare Excellence Awards programme organised by Zee Telugu News in Hyderabad on Saturday. He attended the event as the chief guest and felicitated doctors who rendered distinguished service in the healthcare sector by presenting them with mementoes.
In his speech, Shukla referred to the Indian ethos of “Vaidyo Narayano Harihi” and said doctors, nurses and healthcare workers not only treated illnesses but also inspired hope and confidence among people. He said India had made notable progress in healthcare services, medical research and innovation over the years.
The Governor stated that Telangana, especially Hyderabad, had emerged as a major centre for world-class hospitals, advanced medical technologies and pharmaceutical industries.
Healthy society foundation strengthened through healthcare reforms
Shukla said flagship initiatives such as Ayushman Bharat, the establishment of new AIIMS institutions, medical colleges and the Digital Health Mission were strengthening the country’s healthcare infrastructure. He also urged citizens to support the Centre’s Nasha Mukt Bharat campaign.
Recalling Hyderabad’s role during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Governor said the development of Covaxin reflected India’s scientific capability and commitment to self-reliance. He urged young doctors to uphold compassion, ethics and humanity along with professional excellence in their careers.
The Governor congratulated the award recipients, healthcare institutions and organisers for their contributions. MLA Dr. M. Sanjay Kumar, Malla Reddy University Vice-Chairperson Dr. C.H. Preeti Reddy, Zee Telugu News Chief Editor Bharat Kumar and others attended the programme.
