SIT chief Sajjanar issues notice to RS Praveen Kumar over phone tapping case claims

Hyderabad: The phone tapping case investigation saw a key development on Friday after Hyderabad Police Commissioner and SIT chief VC Sajjanar issued a notice to BRS leader and former IPS officer RS Praveen Kumar.

Sajjanar asked Praveen Kumar to submit evidence within two days. The notice sought proof for the claim that seven criminal cases were pending against the SIT chief.

Earlier in the day, Praveen Kumar addressed a press conference. He alleged that Sajjanar faced multiple criminal cases. He also questioned the credibility of the SIT probe.

Praveen Kumar criticised the issuance of notices to BRS leaders KTR and Harish Rao in the phone-tapping case. He demanded a separate SIT to probe the allegations against Sajjanar.

Sajjanar rejects allegations, seeks proof within two days

Reacting strongly, Sajjanar rejected the allegations. He described the remarks as baseless, irresponsible and defamatory.

In the notice, Sajjanar said the statements damaged the reputation of the SIT. He also said they attempted to obstruct a lawful investigation.

“These false claims mislead the public and undermine the integrity of the SIT,” Sajjanar stated. He warned that such remarks interfered with official duties.

Sajjanar directed Praveen Kumar to submit full details of the alleged cases within two days. He warned of civil and criminal action if Praveen Kumar failed to comply.

The SIT continues to investigate allegations of illegal phone tapping. The probe covers political leaders, businesspersons and journalists during the previous BRS government’s tenure.

Officials said the investigation would proceed strictly according to the law.
