Air pollution levels rise in Hyderabad, AQI touches unhealthy mark

Hyderabad: Air pollution levels have risen sharply in Hyderabad, mirroring conditions seen in Delhi and other major cities, with residents facing increasing health concerns.

Over the past few days, air quality in several parts of the city showed sharp fluctuations. Early on Saturday, the Air Quality Index in Secunderabad reached 240. Authorities classify this level as “unhealthy.”

Typically, the AQI remains in double digits in Hyderabad. However, winter fog and rising pollution sources have pushed levels higher than usual, officials said.

Vehicle emissions, dust from construction activity and open burning of waste have emerged as the main contributors to pollution. In addition, cold winter air and fog trap pollutants closer to the ground, further reducing air quality.

Air pollution Hyderabad prompts health advisory

Despite the spike, data showed a slight improvement in air quality in some localities compared to the previous 15 days. Officials said monitoring remained ongoing across the city.

As air pollution Hyderabad worsened, doctors urged residents to stay cautious. They advised people with respiratory conditions such as asthma, sinusitis and allergies to wear masks while stepping outdoors.

Medical experts also asked parents and senior citizens to avoid early morning and late-night outings. Moreover, they recommended limiting outdoor exercise until air quality improves.

Health officials said preventive steps could help reduce the impact of pollution during winter. They urged residents to follow advisories and monitor AQI updates regularly.
