Hyderabad: Labour, Employment, Mines and Geology Minister Dr. G. Vivek Venkatswamy directed officials to strengthen sand mining surveillance across Telangana and enhance revenue generation from sand resources while cracking down on illegal mining and transportation activities.
The Minister issued the directions during a review meeting with officials of the Telangana State Mineral Development Corporation (TGMDC) at the Secretariat on Saturday.
During the meeting, he reviewed sand mining operations, the availability of sand across the State, revenue trends, future prospects and operational challenges affecting the sector. He also examined measures required to improve the existing system and increase efficiency.
Emphasising transparency, Vivek Venkatswamy instructed officials to maintain strict oversight of sand transportation. He said a robust monitoring mechanism was necessary to track the movement of lorries and prevent illegal extraction and transport of sand.
Revenue focus linked to sand mining surveillance
TGMDC Director Anudeep Durishetty briefed the Minister on steps being taken to improve revenue collection, strengthen monitoring systems and tackle illegal mining activities. He also highlighted challenges faced by the department in certain regions.
Officials informed the Minister about ongoing exploration activities for critical and other minerals in several districts. Vivek Venkatswamy directed them to expedite the exploration process and submit detailed reports on issues that require immediate attention.
The Minister also reviewed the performance of Sand Bazaars, existing enforcement systems and staffing requirements within the department. He instructed officials to further strengthen sand mining surveillance and improve operational efficiency to ensure better management of Telangana’s mineral resources.
The meeting focused on improving regulatory oversight while ensuring that mineral resources contribute more effectively to State revenues through transparent and accountable operations.
