Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Monday announced that the Telangana government aimed to create one crore women millionaires by 2034 through large-scale women empowerment programmes.
He said the government wanted to make women’s empowerment a model for the entire country.
“If women become economically self-reliant, the family stands strong; if the family stands strong, the village is strengthened; and if the village is strengthened, Telangana prospers,” Revanth Reddy said.
The Chief Minister also announced that the government increased the bank linkage loan limit for women’s self-help groups from ₹5 lakh to ₹10 lakh.
From the Secretariat, Revanth Reddy virtually laid the foundation stone for 8,000 Indira Gandhi Stree Shakti Bhavans across Telangana.
The programme formed part of the Women’s Week celebrations organised under the Praja Palana–Pragati Plan initiative.
During the event, the Chief Minister also unveiled four new designs of the parrot-green Indiramma Sarees.
Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, Ministers Seethakka, Sridhar Babu and Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy attended the programme along with senior officials and public representatives.
One crore women millionaires target through SHG support
Revanth Reddy said the government already provided bank-linked loans worth ₹60,472 crore to women’s self-help groups.
He added that the government disbursed ₹1,390 crore towards interest-free loans.
The Chief Minister urged women’s groups to expand beyond small livelihood activities and enter larger business ventures.
He suggested that women’s groups establish rice mills, warehouses and logistics parks at the mandal level.
According to him, the government was ready to allocate land wherever required for such projects.
He further said the government could provide up to 100 acres if necessary.
Revanth Reddy also proposed the establishment of “Mahila Shakti Super Bazars” under women’s self-help groups on a corporate model.
He said the government wanted these super bazars to compete with retail chains such as DMart and Big Bazaar.
The Chief Minister announced that the government would lease land at concessional rates in urban areas for the projects.
One crore women millionaires plan includes business ventures
Revanth Reddy described the simultaneous foundation laying for 8,000 buildings as an unprecedented decision in the country.
He stated that the buildings would become permanent centres for training, business planning and economic activities of women’s groups.
The Chief Minister also highlighted a scheme that enabled women’s groups to procure buses and lease them to RTC.
As part of the programme, he announced that 553 buses would be inaugurated at Parade Grounds on June 5.
During the virtual interaction, members of the Narayanpet Women’s Federation informed the Chief Minister that they earned nearly ₹27 lakh through the operation of a petrol bunk.
Revanth Reddy congratulated the federation and said women’s groups were generating monthly incomes ranging between ₹4 lakh and ₹5 lakh through different business activities.
He also praised women’s groups under the Nirmal District Federation for achieving a 100 percent loan repayment record.
The Chief Minister directed the Nirmal District Collector to allocate land on the main road for setting up another petrol bunk for the federation.
Revanth Reddy said women’s groups in Telangana were moving forward responsibly by repaying every rupee honestly.
