Hyderabad: Telangana Rakshana Sena chief Kalvakuntla Kavitha constituted a polytechnic education committee to study GO 97 and concerns over changes to the existing education system.
She directed the panel, comprising educationists and party leaders, to conduct a comprehensive study and submit its report within one week. The move followed concerns among polytechnic students after the Congress government issued GO 97.
According to the party, the order brought polytechnic education under the purview of the Skill University. Students had subsequently staged protests in different forms against the changes.
They demanded withdrawal of GO 97 and opposed bringing polytechnic education under the SHAKTI, or Labour Department, framework.
Polytechnic education committee to examine GO 97
Kavitha asked the committee to examine whether polytechnic education should continue under the existing system. The panel would also study the alleged adverse effects of GO 97. Moreover, Kavitha asked the members to examine the possible consequences of bringing polytechnic education under the SHAKTI framework.
The Telangana Rakshana Sena said educationists and party leaders working in the education sector had been included in the committee. The panel would study the issues raised by students before preparing its report.
Kavitha set a one-week deadline for completing the exercise and submitting the findings. The study would cover the necessity and continuation of polytechnic education in Telangana under the existing structure.
It would also assess student concerns arising from the government order and the proposed administrative changes.
Seven members named to polytechnic education committee
The committee comprised seven members drawn from education-related backgrounds and the Telangana Rakshana Sena. Dooguntla Naresh Prajapati was appointed to the panel. Moram Veerabhadra Rao and Surabhi were also named as members.
Kongara Dharani Rani and Kotla Mahender Reddy, also known as Kanishka, joined the committee. Udari Chandramohan Goud and Nadipalli Venkateswar Rao were the other members.
Kavitha directed the polytechnic education committee to undertake a comprehensive examination of the issue before submitting its recommendations. The panel’s report was expected to cover the existing polytechnic system, GO 97 and the implications of bringing the sector under the SHAKTI framework.
