Hyderabad: BJP leader Rao Padma Reddy accused authorities of Hanamkonda civic neglect, saying even light rain had thrown the city into disarray.
The former Hanamkonda district BJP president criticised conditions at major junctions in the Warangal West Assembly constituency. She alleged that the roads and public infrastructure had deteriorated badly.
Padma Reddy targeted local Congress MLA Naini Rajender Reddy over the situation. She alleged that the MLA focused more on making statements than on city development.
According to Padma Reddy, the MLA’s promises had far exceeded his actions. She accused him of failing to address basic civic problems.
Brief spells of rain had flooded major junctions, she claimed. Inadequate drainage facilities had caused the waterlogging, while officials had failed to remove silt from existing drains on time.
The resulting waterlogging had made daily travel difficult for thousands of motorists and pedestrians. Potholes also posed risks to two-wheeler riders, who struggled to spot them under the accumulated water.
Hanamkonda civic neglect affects traders and commuters
Stagnant rainwater had created serious difficulties for small traders, Padma Reddy said. The continuing problems with damaged roads and drainage had also caused concern among residents.
Local people had expressed anger over the alleged failure of authorities to address the issues. Their complaints centred on waterlogging, potholes and inadequate drainage facilities.
Padma Reddy demanded immediate action from municipal and local officials. Ruling party representatives should also intervene and address the problems, she said.
She called for stagnant water to be cleared from major junctions without delay. A permanent drainage system should also be established to prevent recurring waterlogging.
Immediate repairs to pothole-ridden roads formed another part of her demand. Padma Reddy warned of large-scale protests if the authorities failed to respond.
She said she would mobilise Hanamkonda residents and BJP workers against the alleged neglect. The proposed protests would target MLA Naini Rajender Reddy, she added.
