Harish Rao backs power workers strike, slams Congress

Hyderabad: BRS leader T. Harish Rao backed the power workers’ strike in Siddipet and criticised the Congress government over unresolved issues of electricity artisans.

He visited the Electricity DE office, where Telangana Electricity Artisan Employees Joint Action Committee members have been staging an indefinite protest. The workers demanded solutions for issues faced by the unmanned and piece-rate employees.

Addressing the gathering, Harish Rao alleged that the Congress government failed to honour promises made during the Assembly elections. He said leaders had made commitments in the names of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, but did not implement them after assuming power.

Power workers’ strike intensifies over pending labour demands

He recalled that during the BRS government, former Chief Minister KCR increased the salaries of 26,000 employees despite legal hurdles. In contrast, he accused the present government of resorting to police action when workers raised concerns.

Referring to ASHA, Anganwadi and employment guarantee workers, he said their demands remained unaddressed. He questioned why the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister had not held talks with the protesting artisans.

Harish Rao demanded immediate discussions to resolve the issues. Otherwise, he warned that the BRS would intensify its agitation in support of the power workers’ strike.

He also criticised the proposal to set up a third DISCOM, alleging that it aimed at commissions rather than sector improvement. According to him, the plan would burden the state financially.

Meanwhile, he said electricity stores lacked basic equipment. Farmers, he added, were not receiving even 12 hours of power supply despite claims of 24-hour electricity.

He warned that the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister would be responsible for the consequences if the issues remain unresolved.
