Ponnam thanks Revanth Reddy over Supreme Court verdict on irrigation projects

Hyderabad: Transport and BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar met Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and thanked him after the Supreme Court irrigation verdict allowed previously granted environmental clearances for the Gouravelli, Palamuru-Rangareddy and Seethamma Sagar projects to continue.

The Minister met the Chief Minister at his residence. He expressed gratitude for what he described as the government’s legal efforts to protect Telangana’s interests.

Ponnam Prabhakar said the verdict followed the Chief Minister’s consultations with the Central Government. Moreover, he said the state fought the case effectively before the Supreme Court. He also credited the government for engaging senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi.

Supreme Court irrigation verdict boosts key projects

The Minister said the ruling would give fresh momentum to the Gouravelli, Palamuru-Rangareddy and Seethamma Sagar irrigation projects. According to him, the projects would irrigate lakhs of acres after completion. He added that they would also meet drinking water requirements.

Further, Ponnam said the projects would benefit farmers and accelerate rural development across Telangana. He praised Revanth Reddy for taking the initiative to protect the state’s interests through legal means.

Finally, the Minister said the government’s legal battle had safeguarded Telangana’s rights. He added that the verdict cleared the way for the continuation of the major irrigation projects.
