Ponnam Prabhakar urges RTC employees to call off strike

Hyderabad: Telangana Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar urged staff to end the RTC employees strike and resume duties to protect public services.

He said a strike was not a solution and asked employees and their families to safeguard the organisation. He added that the government already formed a four-member high-level committee to examine the issues.

According to the minister, the committee will submit its report within four weeks. He clarified that the timeline does not delay action.

RTC employees strike: 29 issues ready for resolution, says minister

Ponnam Prabhakar said the government accepts 29 of the 32 demands raised by employees. He added that officials can resolve these issues immediately. However, the RTC merger and union recognition involve technical aspects and need detailed discussions.

He said the government will take up these matters with the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister.

Highlighting steps taken so far, the minister said the government pays salaries on the first of every month. It also cleared the long-pending 2017 PRC and DA dues.

He said authorities settled 2013 bonds and reduced PF dues from Rs 1,205 crore to Rs 600 crore. They also cut CCS dues from Rs 690 crore to Rs 300 crore.

The government pays Rs 75 crore every month towards PF and CCS, he said. In addition, officials will complete recruitment of 4,538 employees soon to reduce workload. Authorities also gave 1,134 compassionate appointments and reinstated around 250 employees removed earlier.

The minister said RTC is gradually recovering. Therefore, disruptions at this stage will hurt both the organisation and the public.

He noted that RTC serves around 65 lakh passengers daily, including nearly 45 lakh women. Many depend on these services for education, employment, and healthcare.

He urged employees to adopt democratic methods of protest without disrupting services. He said poor people cannot afford alternative transport options.

The minister said the government remains committed to resolving all issues while asking employees to end the strike.
