Online gaming addiction drives youth to suicide in Medchal

Hyderabad: Online gaming addiction claimed another life in Medchal district after a 24-year-old man died by suicide following heavy financial losses linked to online games.

Police said the incident occurred within the limits of the Suraram police station. The deceased, identified as Ravinder, had developed a habit of playing online games over the past few months. As a result, he lost significant amounts of money and slipped into debt.

Before taking the extreme step, Ravinder recorded a selfie video. Later, he died by hanging himself inside his room. In the video message, he stated that no one else was responsible for his death. He said online gaming addiction alone pushed him into distress.

Online gaming addiction cited in final video

In the recorded video, Ravinder said one of his close friends had earlier died by suicide due to online gaming. Despite witnessing that incident, he admitted that he could not change his behaviour. He expressed deep regret and described online gaming as his only mistake.

He also appealed to his friends not to repeat his actions. Ravinder said he hoped his death would be the last among his group linked to online gaming addiction.

Following the incident, police registered a case and began an investigation. Officials said they were examining the video and other evidence to understand the circumstances leading to the death.
