Danam Nagender says he is ready to quit, face bypoll

Hyderabad: Khairatabad MLA Danam Nagender, who recently shifted from the BRS to the Congress, said he was willing to resign and face a by-election if the situation demanded. He also said he was confident of returning to the Assembly with a strong mandate.

Addressing a meeting of Himayatnagar division party workers on Saturday, Danam Nagender said he had no fear of by-elections. He pointed out that he had already won six elections. According to him, electoral challenges never weakened his resolve.

Earlier, Danam Nagender had publicly stated that he continued to remain in the Congress despite facing defection cases and disqualification petitions. He said such legal proceedings would not force him to step back from politics.

Danam Nagender links confidence to party workers

Explaining the reason behind his bold stand, Danam Nagender said party workers were the source of his courage. He said their support gave him the confidence to resign if required. Their backing, he added, also strengthened his decision to contest a by-election.

“Party workers are my strength to resign. They are also my strength to contest elections,” he told the media. He said their encouragement allowed him to take firm political decisions without hesitation.

Danam Nagender also recalled his earlier statement that he was ready to step down if Chief Minister Revanth Reddy asked him to do so. At present, disqualification petitions against ten MLAs who moved from the BRS to the Congress remain pending. His remarks have triggered fresh debate in Telangana political circles.
