Niranjan Reddy accuses CM of misleading public on irrigation projects

Hyderabad: Former Irrigation Minister and BRS leader S. Niranjan Reddy on Friday accused Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy of making misleading irrigation projects claims and lacking a proper understanding of Telangana’s water infrastructure.

Addressing the media, Niranjan Reddy criticised the Chief Minister’s statement that one TMC of water could irrigate 15,000 acres.

According to him, such irrigation projects claims could adversely affect Telangana’s future water rights if authorities used them for water allocation calculations.

He also warned that such assumptions could force farmers to depend heavily on drip irrigation and sprinkler systems.

Irrigation projects claims trigger BRS criticism

Niranjan Reddy questioned the Chief Minister’s criticism of the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme.

He claimed that works worth Rs 35,200 crore were completed during the tenure of former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao.

Furthermore, he alleged that the Congress party had filed several cases against major lift irrigation projects in the State.

According to the former minister, these legal challenges delayed project execution and affected development works.

He also claimed that the cancellation of canal tenders after the Congress government assumed office imposed an additional financial burden of Rs 4,000 crore.

Irrigation projects claims linked to land acquisition debate

Niranjan Reddy said the previous BRS government acquired 26,800 acres of land for the Palamuru-Rangareddy project.

He stated that the project required a total of 27,100 acres. Therefore, he described allegations regarding inadequate land acquisition as baseless.

The BRS leader challenged Revanth Reddy to provide details of irrigation projects completed by the current government.

Moreover, he accused the Congress administration of obstructing development initiatives launched during the previous regime.

Niranjan Reddy maintained that the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme represented a significant irrigation project for Telangana and defended the progress achieved under the BRS government.
