Hyderabad: Police arrested 11 people in connection with a robbery and firewood theft case in Chandur of Nalgonda district. They seized Rs 9.80 lakh, 11 mobile phones and a Bolero from the accused.
Chandur CI Ramu disclosed the case details on Thursday. The investigation began after a mill owner reported that hundreds of paddy sacks had disappeared from a market yard godown.
Government paddy belonging to Mahavir Par Boiled Rice Industries in Kurampalli village remained stored at the Chandur market yard godown. The mill had already moved 25,000 quintals of paddy, while another 13,000 quintals remained there.
Mill owner Telukuntla Srinivasulu recently inspected the godown and noticed scattered paddy and signs of missing sacks. After checking the stock, he found that around 600 to 700 sacks had disappeared.
Srinivasulu then lodged a complaint with Chandur police on the 22nd of the month. Police launched an investigation and traced the people allegedly involved in the theft.
The investigation found that Nagilla Anjaneyulu, a market yard trade licence holder, occasionally worked as a porter. Around two months earlier, he reportedly found a key to the godown.
Nalgonda robbery case exposes extortion after theft
According to police, Anjaneyulu later joined Bommoju Prakash and Methari Nagesh in stealing sacks from the godown. The three allegedly removed the sacks at night and sold them in the Suryapet market.
On the night of July 18, they allegedly loaded the stolen material into a Bolero. At that point, Dhoti Venkanna and Vemula Pawan reportedly noticed them.
Dhoti Shiva, Bheemanapalli Ganesh and Dhoti Naresh also joined the group. Ganduri Mallesh, Beta Venkanna and Golkonda Shekhar were also allegedly involved.
The group reportedly caught the three suspected thieves and threatened to hand them over to police. They also allegedly threatened to kill them and demanded Rs 5 lakh.
The suspects paid Rs 5 lakh to prevent the matter from reaching the police, according to the investigation. Police also said a person named Nallaswamy recorded videos during the incident.
Chandur police arrested 11 people in connection with the theft and subsequent robbery. However, Nallaswamy remained absconding at the time of the police briefing.
Officials seized Rs 9.80 lakh, 11 mobile phones and the Bolero from the accused. Police continued efforts to trace the absconding suspect.
Nalgonda district SP Sarathchandra Pawar congratulated the Chandur police team for tracing the accused. Officers were continuing the investigation into the theft and robbery.
