Hyderabad: A man brutally killed his wife in Nallakunta after attacking her with petrol and setting her on fire in front of their children, police said.
The accused allegedly attacked his wife following frequent disputes driven by suspicion. During the assault, he poured petrol on her and set her ablaze inside their house. When their daughter tried to intervene, he pushed her into the flames and fled the spot.
Neighbours rushed to the house after hearing the screams of the mother and daughter. They shifted both victims to a nearby hospital. Doctors declared the woman dead on arrival, while the daughter survived with minor injuries.
Police identified the accused as Venkatesh, a native of Huzurabad in Nalgonda district. He had married the victim, Triveni, after a love marriage. The couple had a daughter and a son.
Nallakunta murder followed years of domestic disputes
According to police, Venkatesh suspected his wife’s character for a long time. He often quarrelled with her and subjected her to harassment. Unable to bear the abuse, Triveni recently moved to her mother’s house.
Venkatesh later assured her that he would change and brought her back to Hyderabad. However, within days of returning, he allegedly carried out the murder.
Nallakunta police registered a case and launched a search operation. Officers arrested Venkatesh within 12 hours of the crime. Further investigation is underway.
