Malkajgiri drunk driving cases reach 174 in weekly drive

Hyderabad: Malkajgiri Traffic Police booked 174 offenders during a week-long enforcement drive targeting malkajgiri drunk driving between April 12 and April 18, 2026.

Officials said two-wheelers accounted for the majority of violations, with 146 cases. In addition, 12 cases involved three-wheelers and 16 involved four-wheelers. No cases were reported for heavy vehicles.

Data showed that 163 offenders recorded Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) levels between 36 mg/100 ml and 200 mg/100 ml. Meanwhile, 11 offenders had BAC levels ranging from 201 mg/100 ml to 300 mg/100 ml.

All offenders will be produced before the court. Police reiterated that Malkajgiri drunk driving is a serious offence and warned of strict penalties.

Malkajgiri drunk driving enforcement and penalties

Authorities stated that any individual causing a fatal accident while driving under the influence would be charged under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The section prescribes up to 10 years of imprisonment along with a fine.

Police also shared court outcomes for the same period. A total of 249 drunk driving cases were disposed of. Among them, 12 offenders were sentenced to jail along with fines. Additionally, 16 offenders received fines and were assigned to social services. The remaining 221 offenders were penalised with fines only.

Officials said enforcement drives would continue to deter violations and improve road safety in the area.
