Hyderabad: BRS Working President K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) said the Congress government should install Mahatma Gandhi statues in the homes of poor families instead of demolishing their houses if it genuinely respects Gandhi. He accused Chief Minister Revanth Reddy of acting against Gandhian values through the government’s approach to the Musi project.
Addressing a meeting of BRS workers from the Rajendranagar constituency at a convention in Shamshabad, KTR alleged that thousands of poor and middle-class families were facing the threat of displacement. He claimed that even Mahatma Gandhi’s grandson, Tushar Gandhi, had opposed the demolition of houses and urged the government to reconsider its approach.
KTR alleged that the state government was proceeding with demolitions despite objections from affected families. He also criticised the Chief Minister for proposing a Mahatma Gandhi statue while, according to him, residents were losing their homes.
KTR links Gandhi statues demand to Musi project criticism
Referring to the Gandhi statues demand, KTR accused both the Congress and the BJP of supporting policies related to the Musi project that he said would harm poor residents. He alleged that local BJP leaders had raised objections while the Union government continued to grant approvals.
The BRS leader questioned the government’s plan to spend large sums on the Musi project while, according to him, several election promises remained unfulfilled. He also alleged that the state was witnessing corruption and misuse of power under the present administration.
KTR further criticised Rajendranagar MLA Prakash Goud, alleging that the legislator had failed to deliver development despite changing political allegiance. He asserted that the BRS remained strong in the constituency and expressed confidence that the party would return to power in the next elections.
Former minister Sabita Indra Reddy, district leaders and senior party members also attended the meeting.
