Hyderabad: Jubilee Hills arrests followed a police investigation into four men accused of posing as hijras and forcibly demanding money. Police said the group stopped a newly purchased BMW on Road No. 45 and allegedly demanded ₹5,000 on August 21.

The case came to light after a video of the incident surfaced. The video showed the group stopping the BMW owner and allegedly demanding money from him.

Following the video, DGP CV Anand directed Jubilee Hills police to investigate the incident. Police then began examining CCTV footage to identify the suspects and trace their movements.

Jubilee Hills police examined around 500 CCTV cameras during the investigation. The footage helped officers trace the suspects’ route from Jubilee Hills towards Boduppal.

With assistance from task force personnel, police identified and detained the four suspects in Boduppal. The accused were identified as Ramesh, 40, Satyanarayana, 41, Ramesh, 42, and Yadagiri, 44.

According to police, the accused allegedly dressed as hijras and stopped people on roads to demand money. Police also alleged that the group targeted housewarming ceremonies and newly opened shops.

Meanwhile, investigators continued examining the suspects’ movements after tracing their route through CCTV footage. The investigation covered footage collected over about one month, according to police.

The case began with the August 21 incident involving the BMW owner on Road No. 45. The video of that incident subsequently led to police action after the DGP directed officers to investigate.

The investigation therefore involved CCTV analysis, task force assistance and identification of the four accused. Police said their alleged activities extended beyond the incident involving the BMW owner.
