International Yoga Day event highlights healthy lifestyle message

Hyderabad: State Health Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha called on people to make yoga a part of their daily lives and said it plays a key role in building a healthy society. He made the remarks while participating as the chief guest at the 12th International Yoga Day programme organised by the AYUSH Department at Gachibowli Stadium in Rangareddy district on Sunday.

The minister inaugurated the event by lighting the ceremonial lamp. Addressing participants, he described yoga as a priceless cultural heritage that India has shared with the world. He said yoga is not merely a physical exercise but a holistic way of life that promotes harmony between the mind, body and soul.

Rajanarasimha said yoga offers an effective solution to growing stress, anxiety and lifestyle-related diseases associated with modern living. He noted that regular practice helps improve physical fitness, mental well-being, concentration and self-confidence while encouraging a healthier lifestyle.

The minister also pointed out that the United Nations’ recognition of June 21 as International Yoga Day has helped yoga gain global acceptance. He said the increasing popularity of the Indian tradition across the world is a matter of pride for every Indian.

International Yoga Day strengthens wellness awareness

The minister said yoga can contribute significantly to the vision of a healthier Telangana and a healthier India. Therefore, he urged youth, women, students, employees and senior citizens to include yoga in their daily routines and support the creation of a healthier society.

He added that promoting a culture of yoga in every household could help reduce health problems and improve overall well-being. In addition, he stressed that consistent practice can deliver long-term benefits for individuals and communities alike.

Health, Medical and Family Welfare Secretary Dr. Christina Z. Chongthu, IAS, Additional Collector Kiranmayi, Rajendranagar RDO Sridhar, Serilingampally Tahsildar, District Medical and Health Officer Dr. Swarnakumari, yoga instructors, students, youth and officials from various departments attended the programme.
