Indiramma Bima scheme to launch on November 19 in Telangana

Hyderabad: Telangana will launch the Indiramma Bima scheme on November 19, Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka announced. The scheme will provide ₹5 lakh in insurance cover to every poor family in the state. The government chose former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s birth anniversary for the launch.

Bhatti made the announcement at a meeting in Khammam on Saturday. The meeting focused on preparations for the Khammam-Nalgonda-Warangal Graduates’ MLC election. He said the government would not consider caste, religion or income when deciding eligibility. Instead, birth in Telangana would be the only qualifying condition, he stated.

The announcement comes amid concerns over benefits under the existing Rythu Bima scheme. The government had already announced the Indiramma Bima scheme in its Budget. It has now confirmed the launch date.

Indiramma Bima scheme announcement follows concerns over Rythu Bima

The previous BRS government introduced Rythu Bima to support farmers’ families after a farmer’s death. However, allegations have emerged that families have not received compensation. The claims relate to the current government’s reported failure to pay insurance premiums.

Reports indicate that hundreds of farmers have died, leaving their families without the expected financial assistance. As a result, affected households face uncertainty over the support they had expected from the scheme.

Against this backdrop, the latest announcement has renewed attention on the Indiramma Bima scheme. According to Bhatti, the new programme will provide ₹5 lakh in insurance cover to poor families across Telangana.

During the Khammam meeting, Bhatti also urged party workers to support the Congress candidate in the upcoming graduates’ MLC election. The government has scheduled the insurance scheme’s launch for November 19.
