Hyderabad: An imposter police officer was arrested at the Telangana Secretariat after he posed as a constable and claimed links to the Chief Minister’s Office, police said on Wednesday.
The accused was identified as Thaturi Ravi, also known as Charan Yadavu and Nikhil Yadavu, a 31-year-old hotel worker from Amberpet.
Police said the imposter police officer arrested case was registered at Saifabad police station under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Information Technology Act.
Imposter police officer arrested after Secretariat incident
According to police, the accused entered the Secretariat on April 26 wearing a full police uniform. He claimed to be part of the Chief Minister’s security detail and introduced himself as a constable.
He allegedly told members of the public that he could arrange direct meetings with the Chief Minister without prior appointments. Moreover, he attempted to gain their trust through false claims.
Investigators found that he recorded a video reel in uniform and uploaded it on Instagram. In the video, he assured people of assistance to strengthen his false identity.
Imposter police officer arrested in social media fraud case
Police said the accused earlier worked in a canteen at Goshamahal in 2018. During that time, he frequently observed police personnel and developed an interest in the uniform.
He later purchased a police kit in Amberpet and began posing as an officer on social media. As a result, he created a fraudulent persona to mislead the public.
Police arrested him on April 29 and registered a case under Sections 204, 205, 319, 318(4) and 353 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with Section 66-D of the IT Act.
Imposter police officer arrested, materials seized
Police seized a khaki uniform, jungle pattern uniform, beret cap, khaki cap, black belt and whistle cords from the accused. Additionally, they recovered a name plate reading “Charan Yadav” and a Motorola G34 mobile phone.
The investigation is being handled by Inspector N. Rajender of Saifabad police station. Meanwhile, senior officers supervised the operation and appreciated the team’s prompt action.
Police urged the public to remain vigilant and follow official procedures for government-related appointments. They warned against trusting unauthorised individuals claiming official influence.
