Hyderabad: HYDRAA has reclaimed land worth about Rs 1.10 lakh crore from encroachments since its formation, according to the agency’s latest assessment.
The agency said it recovered 2,435.23 acres of land.
These include government properties, lakes, parks, drainage channels and land reserved for public purposes.
Officials stated that HYDRAA removed encroachments from 449.11 acres of lake land.
The agency also restored several water bodies across Hyderabad.
HYDRAA land recovery includes lakes and government properties
As part of the first phase, HYDRAA protected land around Thammidikunta, Nalla Cheruvu in Kukatpally and Nalla Cheruvu in Uppal.
It also carried out restoration works at Sunnam Cheruvu, Bum-Rukn-ud-Daula Lake and Bathukamma Kunta.
According to officials, these efforts increased the effective spread of the lakes.
Meanwhile, HYDRAA plans to protect nearly 300 more acres around 14 lakes identified under the second phase.
The authority also reported recovering 1,804.23 acres of government land.
Officials based the action on complaints received through Prajavani and reports from revenue authorities.
Major recovery operations took place in Qutbullapur, Ameenpur, Khanamet, Kondapur and Kachavani Singaram.
In addition, HYDRAA cleared encroachments from 19.26 acres of drainage channels.
It recovered 90.29 acres of parks, 50.06 acres of roads and footpaths, and 21.29 acres reserved for public use.
HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath said the agency faced several challenges during large-scale recovery operations.
However, he said the government extended full support to reclaim public land.
Ranganath stated that HYDRAA aims to protect another Rs 1 lakh crore worth of land next year.
Further, the agency plans to restore additional lakes and support the development of four major water bodies as mini Tank Bunds.
The commissioner added that HYDRAA’s Disaster Response Force and Monsoon Emergency Teams will remain on alert during the rainy season.
The teams will monitor flood-prone colonies and roads across the city.
