Revanth Reddy to launch 553 women-funded TGSRTC buses today

Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy will launch women-funded TGSRTC buses purchased by Mandal Mahila Samakhyas under the Mahila Shakti scheme at Parade Grounds in Secunderabad on Tuesday.

Under the initiative, Mandal Mahila Samakhyas across Telangana invested Rs 199.08 crore to purchase 553 buses.

The buses have been leased to TGSRTC for operations across the state.

The programme has enabled women self-help group members to become owners of income-generating assets instead of remaining only borrowers.

Each bus earns a monthly rental income of Rs 69,468 for the respective Mandal Mahila Samakhya.

As a result, the 553 buses together generate around Rs 3.84 crore in rental income every month.

Officials said the scheme has already generated Rs 20.34 crore in rental earnings.

The initiative also supports the implementation of the Mahalakshmi free bus travel scheme for women.

According to official figures, women have completed 308 crore free bus journeys since the scheme began.

The government estimates that women passengers have collectively saved about Rs 10,696 crore in travel expenses.

Officials said the buses represent both economic empowerment and greater mobility for women across Telangana.
