Hyderabad: Hyderabad City SHE Teams apprehended 678 persons for harassment, eve-teasing, stalking and other offences against women during Bonalu 2026 after launching an extensive security and surveillance drive across the city.
The operation was carried out under the supervision of Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar. SHE Teams intensified deployment at temples, procession routes, bus stops, metro stations, marketplaces and other crowded locations. Moreover, plain-clothes personnel, video surveillance and rapid intervention teams monitored sensitive areas throughout the festival.
During the festival, SHE Teams received 122 complaints. Courts convicted 25 offenders and sentenced them to imprisonment along with fines. In addition, courts convicted 13 accused in cases investigated by SHE Teams.
The surveillance drive also led police to register petty cases under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Hyderabad City Police Act. Courts sentenced 11 offenders to up to three days of simple imprisonment and imposed fines of ₹1,050 each. Another 26 offenders paid fines of ₹1,050 and performed community service.
Awareness drives during Bonalu 2026
As part of Bonalu 2026 security measures, SHE Teams organised 400 awareness programmes and conducted 110 surveillance operations across temples, educational institutions, transport hubs and commercial centres. Meanwhile, the campaigns focused on women’s safety, cyber awareness and encouraging people to report offences.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Women & Child Safety Wing) Lavanya NJP urged citizens to report harassment immediately through Dial 100, Dial 112 or the WhatsApp helpline 9490616555. Finally, she said Hyderabad Police would continue intensive safety measures beyond Bonalu 2026 while maintaining a zero-tolerance policy towards crimes against women.
