Hyderabad: The Priyanka death case involving a medical student took a key turn after police changed the sections in the case following her death. Police also moved the Rajamahendravaram court seeking five-day custody of the accused for questioning.
Following Priyanka’s death, police removed BNS Section 110, which had applied to the case earlier. They subsequently registered the case under BNS Section 106. A lawyer representing the police filed a petition before the Rajamahendravaram court seeking custody of the accused for five days.
Priyanka death case accused in judicial remand
The accused have remained in Rajamahendravaram Central Jail since August 7. The court had remanded them until August 21.
Meanwhile, police sought their custody to conduct further questioning in connection with the case. The court could issue orders on the custody petition within one or two days. If the court grants permission, police will take the accused into custody and question them as part of the investigation.
Priyanka death case investigation continues
Police expect further questioning of the accused to help the investigation. Investigators could examine additional aspects of the circumstances surrounding the medical student’s death during the proposed custody period.
The Priyanka death case had initially proceeded under a different BNS provision. However, police altered the applicable section after Priyanka died.
Further investigation will depend on the court’s decision on the five-day police custody petition. The accused will remain under judicial remand until August 21 unless the court grants police custody.
