Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board booked nine persons for taking illegal water connections from its supply pipeline in the Red Hills area.
Acting on the directions of HMWS&SB Managing Director Ashok Reddy, vigilance officials initiated action against unauthorised connections. Therefore, the board registered criminal cases against the violators.
The violations surfaced in O&M Division No. 4, Red Hills, Low Level Section, at Sitaram Bagh. During recent GHMC road works, officials noticed unauthorised water lines connected to the main pipeline.
Although the nine houses already had authorised connections, the residents illegally drew a total of 15 additional water connections without permission from the board.
Illegal water connections removed after vigilance checks
Following detection, the HMWS&SB vigilance wing removed all illegal water connections. Subsequently, officials registered criminal cases against all nine persons involved.
Water board officials warned that they would register criminal cases against anyone who took water connections without prior approval. Moreover, they said similar action would apply to unauthorised sewerage pipe connections.
Officials urged citizens to follow due procedure while applying for new water or sewerage links. As a result, they stressed that violations would invite strict legal action.
The HMWS&SB also asked the public to report illegal water or sewerage connections. Citizens can alert the vigilance wing through phone numbers 9989998100 and 9989987135.
