Hyderabad: Heavy rains Telangana could experience on Thursday and Friday as a depression over the Bay of Bengal moves towards the coast. The Hyderabad Meteorological Department said the system was concentrated over the west-central and northwest Bay of Bengal.
Officials estimated that the depression could strengthen near Gopalpuram-Kalingapatnam. They also forecast that the system could cross the coast south of Kalingapatnam by Wednesday midnight.
The weather system has already brought thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds to parts of Telangana. These conditions have affected the combined Warangal and Khammam districts since Tuesday night.
Orange warnings have been issued for the combined Warangal and Khammam districts. Meanwhile, officials forecast heavy rainfall in the combined Adilabad, Karimnagar, Mahabubnagar, Nizamabad and Nalgonda districts.
The department also indicated that several states could see the system move southwest after crossing the coast. Officials said the weather conditions could bring further rainfall across parts of Telangana.
According to the forecast, North Telangana could receive heavy rainfall on the 26th of this month. Southern Telangana, however, was expected to receive moderate rainfall during the period.
Heavy rains Telangana districts face weather warnings
The combined Warangal and Khammam districts remained under an orange warning after strong weather conditions began Tuesday night. Thunder, lightning and gusty winds were reported in these areas.
At the same time, officials forecast heavy rainfall for several other districts across Telangana. The forecast covered the combined Adilabad, Karimnagar, Mahabubnagar, Nizamabad and Nalgonda districts.
The department said heavy to very heavy rainfall remained possible in Telangana on Thursday and Friday. North Telangana was also expected to see heavy rain on the 26th of this month.
Southern districts were forecast to receive moderate rainfall. The weather department’s forecast was linked to the depression over the Bay of Bengal and its expected movement towards the coast.
