Seven arrested in Adilabad explosives seizure worth ₹20 lakh

Adilabad: Police in Adilabad have seized 20,000 electronic detonators and 90 boosters that were allegedly transported illegally from Uttar Pradesh to Telangana, and arrested seven people. The accused allegedly planned to sell the explosives at higher prices to mines, quarries and stone crushers.

District superintendent of police Akhil Mahajan said on Thursday that a case has been registered against nine people. The explosives were seized during vehicle checks near the Pippirwada toll plaza in Jainath mandal. Police also seized a Bolero, a Honda City car and six mobile phones.

The explosives were valued at ₹19.15 lakh, excluding the vehicles, while the total seizure was estimated at around ₹20 lakh. Addressing the media at the district police headquarters, Mahajan said preliminary investigations indicated that the accused had procured the explosives through Ravi Kumar, who is based in Uttar Pradesh.

Police suspect that the accused obtained bills from a company in Uttar Pradesh in other people’s names. They allegedly concealed the electronic detonators inside booster boxes before transporting them to Telangana. Police said the seven accused were intercepted while travelling in two vehicles after collecting the explosives from Uttar Pradesh.

Roles of two other accused under investigation

The other two people named in the case are M D Wahid and Ravi Kumar. Police are investigating their alleged roles and examining the source of the explosives, their intended recipients and possible links to others involved in the transportation.

Mahajan warned that transporting, storing or selling explosives without valid licences and permissions is a criminal offence. He said police would take strict action against those involved in such activities.
