Hyderabad: A 55-year-old sub-inspector died after a two-wheeler hit him at Tank Bund during Ganesh immersion duty. The Tank Bund hit-and-run occurred while he was crossing the road during deployment.
The deceased was identified as K. Venkanna, who served at Kothagudem Two Town police station. He had been deployed in Hyderabad to assist with arrangements for the Ganesh idol immersion process.
According to Kothagudem police, a speeding scooter struck Venkanna as he crossed the road. The riders allegedly failed to stop after the collision and fled from the spot.
Police shifted Venkanna to a hospital for treatment after the accident. However, he later succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.
The incident occurred while police personnel were deployed across Hyderabad for immersion-related duties. Venkanna was performing his assigned duty at Tank Bund when the collision took place.
Tank Bund hit-and-run suspect remains absconding
Kothagudem police said the rider involved in the crash had not been apprehended. Meanwhile, officers have started further investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the accident.
Police said the accused fled after hitting Venkanna. Efforts are underway to trace the person responsible for the collision, according to the police statement.
The accident occurred amid Ganesh immersion arrangements at Tank Bund. Venkanna had been deployed there as part of the police arrangements for the immersion process.
