Hyderabad: BRS leader and former minister T. Harish Rao on Tuesday described the first anniversary of the Sigachi blast as a “dark day” in Telangana’s industrial history. He also demanded ₹1 crore compensation for every affected family.
Harish Rao said 54 migrant workers lost their lives in the explosion at Sigachi Industries in Pashamylaram, Sangareddy district. He alleged that the tragedy resulted from the State government’s failure to enforce safety regulations and the company’s negligence.
Sigachi blast compensation demand renewed
The former minister criticised Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy for not visiting the accident site on the day of the incident. He pointed out that the Chief Minister was in Hyderabad at the time. He alleged that Revanth Reddy visited the site only the following day after criticism mounted.
Harish Rao also alleged that although the Chief Minister had announced ₹1 crore compensation for each bereaved family, the government paid only ₹1 lakh. He claimed the authorities counted Provident Fund, Employees’ State Insurance, life insurance and medical expenses as part of the compensation package.
Further, Harish Rao alleged that officials delayed issuing death certificates. He also claimed they failed to provide jobs to victims’ families and did not extend adequate support to those injured in the explosion.
Referring to the investigation, the BRS leader alleged that the factory operated machinery beyond its approved capacity. He also claimed it lacked mandatory safety guards, a fire No Objection Certificate and a dust control system. According to him, the government failed to take effective action against the company management.
Harish Rao demanded that the government attach the assets of the Sigachi directors. He also sought immediate payment of ₹1 crore compensation to every affected family.
