Harish Rao questions Revanth Reddy’s silence on Banakacharla project

Hyderabad: Former minister and BRS MLA T. Harish Rao criticised the Telangana government for staying silent on the Banakacharla project issue. He said BRS warnings were turning true as Andhra Pradesh moved ahead with the project, backed by the Centre.

Speaking at Telangana Bhavan on Saturday, Harish Rao said Union Minister C.R. Patil had written to Chief Minister Revanth Reddy confirming that the Centre was studying the project’s Pre-Feasibility Report (PFR). He asked why Revanth Reddy had not approached the Supreme Court despite clear evidence of AP’s move.

Harish Rao alleged that Andhra Pradesh was diverting 423 TMC of floodwater, while Karnataka had written to the Centre, saying it would hold 112 TMC at Almatti. He said Maharashtra was also preparing to build new projects in Vidarbha using the same floodwaters.

He accused the Telangana government of indirectly supporting Andhra Pradesh through inaction. “Will you protect people’s interests or serve political interests?” he asked the Chief Minister. Harish Rao urged the government to act fast and safeguard Telangana’s water rights.
