Hyderabad: BRS senior leader and former minister T Harish Rao accused the Congress government and Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy of failing to ensure adequate electricity and irrigation water for farmers. Harish Rao power cuts criticism came through a post on X, where he alleged that Telangana had returned to an era of prolonged outages.
Harish Rao said Revanth Reddy had promised to bring back the old days if Congress came to power. He sarcastically claimed that the Chief Minister had fulfilled that promise by bringing back the earlier period of power cuts.
He alleged that the government had failed to provide even six hours of supply in some areas. The promise of 24-hour quality electricity, he said, had become a distant prospect for farmers.
The BRS leader also rejected the government’s explanation that El Nino had caused the power shortages. He questioned how farmers could protect their crops when both irrigation water and electricity remained inadequate.
Harish Rao cited the protest by farmers from Ramayampet in Medak district. The farmers staged a dharna outside an electricity substation after their crops faced problems due to inadequate power supply. Recent reports also said Ramayampet farmers protested over irregular agricultural electricity and sought regular supply for irrigation.
Harish Rao power cuts attack focuses on farmers’ problems
Harish Rao said the situation had left farmers struggling as their fields dried up. He questioned the government’s response to their concerns and criticised what he described as attempts to shift responsibility to weather conditions.
“Administration does not mean standing before microphones and delivering speeches. It means standing by farmers in crisis,” Harish Rao said, according to the statement.
He said the government’s basic responsibility was to provide irrigation water on time and ensure quality free electricity for agriculture. The BRS leader urged the government to stop making statements and restore continuous power supply to farming activity.
His criticism of the El Nino explanation followed similar remarks he had made about power and water shortages in Telangana. Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka had earlier attributed irregular agricultural power supply to El Nino, inadequate rainfall and falling groundwater levels.
Harish Rao also raised concerns over irrigation management. He alleged that the government had failed to use available water and power resources effectively, while farmers faced worsening conditions.
The former minister demanded immediate steps to address the electricity shortage affecting agriculture. He also called for timely irrigation water and uninterrupted quality power for farmers.

ఎల్నినోను సాకుగా చూపి ప్రభుత్వం తప్పించుకోవచ్చు.. కానీ పంటలు ఎండుతున్న రైతన్న పరిస్థితి ఏంటి?
