Goshamahal Police arrest accused in ₹9.5 lakh robbery case

Hyderabad: Goshamahal Police arrested Mohd Zaheer @ Ismail in connection with a robbery involving approximately ₹9.50 lakh in Begum Bazar. Police apprehended the 37-year-old accused at Chandrayangutta on October 8, 2026, and recovered ₹9 lakh from his residence.

According to the police press note, the case involved Crime No. 380/2026 under Section 309(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The complainant, Kevala Ram, a watch businessman, reported that the accused threatened him with a knife and took his cash.

The incident occurred on October 5, 2026, at around 3:25 pm, near Aziz Plaza in Begum Bazar. Ram had collected business payments and was carrying the cash through the balcony area of Amar Estate when the alleged robbery took place.

Police said the complainant sustained injuries to his hands and neck during the incident. Following his complaint, Goshamahal Police registered a case and launched an investigation into the robbery.

During the investigation, officers recovered ₹9 lakh from the accused’s residence and another ₹480 from his possession. They also seized a Vivo Y21 mobile phone and a vegetable-cutting knife allegedly used in the offence.

Police arrested Mohd Zaheer @ Ismail after receiving credible information on October 8. Subsequently, officers produced him before the XVI Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate in Hyderabad for judicial remand. Further investigation remains underway, according to the press note.

The police identified the accused as Mohd Zaheer @ Ismail, son of late Mohammed Ghouse, aged 37. He works as a watch mechanic and resides in Chatrinaka, Hyderabad.

Goshamahal Police urged the public to exercise caution when carrying large amounts of cash. They advised business owners to prefer banking and digital payments, install functional CCTV cameras in vulnerable areas, and verify the backgrounds of employees handling cash or sensitive business information.
