GHMC zonal officers to conduct daily inspections under sanitation drive

Hyderabad: GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan has instructed zonal commissioners to intensify field inspections. They must ensure full enforcement of sanitation measures across Hyderabad as part of the ongoing GHMC sanitation drive.

Citywide sanitation push covers 1,882 locations

The directive was issued during a WebEx review meeting on Wednesday. It was attended by additional commissioners, zonal commissioners, engineers, and senior officials from multiple departments. The review focused on sanitation progress and the status of developmental works under the GHMC sanitation drive’s jurisdiction.

Karnan stressed the importance of strict adherence to the drive’s schedule. He called for coordinated action at all administrative levels. He also urged efforts to promote public awareness on hygiene, noting that community participation is crucial to maintaining a clean and healthy city. The GHMC sanitation drive is vital for this public engagement.

The special drive, now in its ninth day, is being implemented across all 300 city wards using a theme-based model. Specific sanitation goals are assigned each day. The latest operations targeted the removal of green waste, in addition to regular cleaning work within the GHMC sanitation drive.

Since the start of the campaign, GHMC teams have carried out sanitation works across a wide range of public infrastructure. This includes foot overbridges, flyovers, roads, dividers, medians, kerb stones, parks, nalas, lakes, and footpaths as part of the GHMC sanitation drive. Vulnerable garbage spots and construction and demolition (C&D) waste areas have also been cleared. Cleaning of transformers and electricity poles is also under way.

By January 6, GHMC had cleared an extra 2,005 metric tonnes of municipal solid waste and 670 metric tonnes of C&D waste. Sanitation operations have been completed at 1,882 identified sites.

Zonal and deputy commissioners have been conducting surprise inspections to enforce compliance, while the Commissioner continues to monitor progress closely.
