Food Safety inspection flags hygiene lapses at Barbeque Nation outlet

Hyderabad: A Food Safety inspection at the Barbeque Nation outlet in GSM Mall, Madinaguda, identified several hygiene and record-keeping deficiencies despite overall compliance with food safety standards. Officials issued an Improvement Notice following the inspection.

Food Safety Officers from the Commissioner of Food Safety conducted the inspection to assess compliance with food safety and hygiene regulations. The outlet received a FoSCoS score of 105 out of 116, equivalent to 91 per cent.

The inspection found that food safety records, including medical fitness certificates, pest control reports, food testing, water testing and packaging records, were properly maintained.

Officials also noted that the FSSAI licence was prominently displayed at the premises. Moreover, inspectors found no signs of pest activity during the visit. The restaurant used a probe thermometer to monitor the internal temperature of cooked food, which was recorded as a positive food safety practice.

Food Safety inspection identifies corrective measures

During the inspection, officials directed the restaurant to improve cleanliness in several areas. They instructed the management to carry out deep cleaning of side walls, flooring and corners.

Inspectors also discarded Cajun sauce because it lacked proper labelling. In addition, they directed the outlet to replace wet mats at the non-alcoholic beverage counter to prevent foul odour.

The inspection further highlighted the need to maintain records of cooked food temperature monitoring. Officials said proper documentation was essential for ensuring food safety compliance.

Following the inspection, the department issued an Improvement Notice to the establishment. The notice required the management to address the identified deficiencies and ensure full compliance with food safety standards.
