Erra Kunta land row takes decisive turn with Hyderabad police probe

Hyderabad: The long-running Erra Kunta land dispute in Saidabad took a decisive turn on Tuesday, after Hyderabad Commissioner of Police A.V. Ranganath IPS personally inspected the site and initiated a full-scale review.

Responding to repeated complaints from local residents, the Commissioner visited the area along with senior officials from the revenue, irrigation, and police departments. During the inspection, he announced plans to restore Erra Kunta as a protected urban water body, much like Batukamma Kunta. To establish the lake’s original character, authorities will examine land records going back 70–80 years.

Commissioner Ranganath revealed that certain individuals were falsely claiming nearly six acres of lake land as private property. He stated, “Hydrology data clearly shows this is a natural water body. We will investigate every false claim and bring the facts to court.” He further assured that strong legal action would follow to protect the lake.

Moreover, he emphasised that encroachments would not be tolerated under any circumstances. Final decisions will rely solely on historical records. “Anyone trying to grab this land illegally will face firm legal consequences,” he warned.

Santosh Nagar ACP T. Sukhdev Singh supervised security during the Commissioner’s visit. IS Sadan Inspector G. Nagaraju and his team also assisted in the operation. Locals welcomed the Commissioner’s intervention, calling it a long-awaited step toward the revival of Erra Kunta.
