Drug peddler racket busted near school as New Year checks intensify

Hyderabad: Drug peddler activity came under police radar as Hyderabad city police intensified checks to curb narcotics use during New Year celebrations, leading to the arrest of a drug racket near a school in Medchal.

Based on specific inputs, Medchal police arrested three drug peddlers and detained five consumers during targeted raids. Police said the action formed part of heightened enforcement ahead of New Year’s festivities.

Officials said those taken into custody included two medical students and three software engineers. Police said the accused procured drugs for consumption during private parties and gatherings.

During the operation, police seized 70 grams of MDMA from the accused. Additionally, teams recovered two cars and eight mobile phones used for transport and coordination.

Drug peddler network linked to Bengaluru supply

Police said preliminary investigation revealed that the drug peddler network sourced narcotics from Bengaluru and supplied them to Hyderabad ahead of the New Year celebrations.

As part of the drive, police intensified vehicle checks and surveillance across the city. Accordingly, special teams focused on vulnerable locations to prevent drug circulation.

Police said further investigation was underway to identify suppliers and additional links connected to the network. They added that enforcement would continue throughout the festive period.
