Hyderabad: TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud on Saturday welcomed the court verdict concerning Khairatabad MLA Danam Nagender. He described the ruling as a “slap in the face” for the BRS and its president K. Chandrashekar Rao.
Speaking to mediapersons during an informal interaction in New Delhi, Goud said the Congress welcomed the verdict. He also expressed confidence that the Khairatabad Assembly constituency would remain with the party.
The TPCC chief accused Chandrashekar Rao of introducing what he called a “culture of defections” in Telangana politics. He cited the cases of Talasani Srinivas Yadav and Sabitha Indra Reddy.
Goud said Talasani Srinivas Yadav had been elected on a TDP ticket before joining the BRS and becoming a minister. Similarly, Sabitha Indra Reddy was elected on a Congress ticket before joining the BRS and becoming a minister.
He also targeted the BJP over its political record. Goud alleged that the party had a history of toppling elected governments and splitting political parties.
He further accused the BJP of undermining the country’s democratic system.

Turning to internal Congress matters, Goud said party leaders enjoyed complete freedom. However, he cautioned that such freedom should remain within certain limits.
He said party in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan had already held discussions with several leaders. These included G. Chinna Reddy and Konda Surekha.
Goud also responded to reports that former minister Konda Surekha could be given another organisational position. He said he had no information about any such proposal.
On the upcoming Graduate MLC elections, the TPCC president said the candidate selection process was moving rapidly. The party will forward its list of candidates to the Congress high command based on a report from Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka.
Goud said a notable feature of the ticket aspirants was the presence of many young leaders. A large number of them were seeking Congress nominations for the Graduate MLC seats, he added.
