Hyderabad: Amid the ongoing inquiry by Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar into party defections, Khairatabad MLA Danam Nagender made sharp political remarks, asserting that he remained firmly with the Congress.
Speaking to the media, Nagender said he did not know which party the defected MLAs currently belonged to. However, he stressed that he was a Congress MLA and continued to remain in the Congress party.
He went on to claim that whichever party he belonged to emerged victorious. He added that the Congress would win the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation elections as well.
Nagender said the Congress, in alliance with the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen, would secure victory in 300 divisions in the GHMC elections. He also said he would campaign across Greater Hyderabad to ensure the party’s success.
Party defections issue remains under Speaker’s scrutiny
Nagender’s comments came at a time when the Speaker continued hearings into complaints related to party defections in the Telangana Assembly.
In the previous Assembly elections, Nagender had won on a Bharat Rashtra Samithi ticket. He later joined the Indian National Congress, triggering political debate and legal scrutiny.
The Speaker’s inquiry into the matter remained underway, with political parties closely watching the proceedings and their possible implications.
