Damodar Rajanarasimha proposes new medical equipment procurement policy

Hyderabad: Health Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha directed Telangana Government Medical Services and Infrastructure Development Corporation (TGMSIDC) officials to prepare a new medical equipment procurement policy. The move aims to improve transparency and speed up the supply of quality equipment to government hospitals.

The minister reviewed medical equipment procurement, tender processes, equipment performance and maintenance at the TGMSIDC office in Koti on Friday. Meanwhile, he stressed that every medical device supplied to government hospitals should meet quality standards and become operational on time.

The minister asked officials to prepare proposals for a transparent and digital procurement system. He also directed them to adopt uniform standards for all future purchases.

Medical equipment procurement to go fully digital

Damodar Rajanarasimha instructed officials to digitise the entire procurement process. Further, he said an end-to-end digital platform should track every stage, from indent generation to installation in hospitals. He said the system would improve transparency, accountability and efficiency.

The minister also directed officials to create a centralised dashboard to monitor medical equipment in all government hospitals. Additionally, senior management should review the dashboard every 15 days. They should also take immediate corrective action wherever necessary.

He instructed officials to review existing Comprehensive Annual Maintenance Contract (CAMC) agreements. He also asked them to revise rules and impose strict penalties on vendors who fail to meet Service Level Agreement (SLA) conditions.

Damodar Rajanarasimha directed TGMSIDC to appoint eight biomedical engineers for field-level monitoring across the state. Four engineers will oversee the Hyderabad region. One engineer each will monitor the East, West, South and North zones.

The meeting was attended by TGMSIDC Managing Director Gaurav Uppal, Director of Medical Education Narendra Kumar, Director of Public Health Ravindra Naik and other senior officials. Finally, the minister asked them to expedite the proposed reforms in medical equipment procurement.
