Hyderabad: Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla on Sunday urged citizens to make cycling a way of life, saying it plays a crucial role in promoting fitness, healthy living, and environmental conservation.
The Governor was speaking at the “Sundays on Cycle” programme organised at Gachibowli Stadium to mark World Bicycle Day. The event was conducted by the Sports Authority of Telangana with support from the Sports Authority of India under the Fit India Movement. Shukla also flagged off a cycle rally as part of the celebrations.
A large number of cycling enthusiasts, sportspersons, and young participants joined the rally. Addressing the gathering, the Governor said cycling contributes not only to physical well-being but also to environmental protection.
He encouraged people to include cycling in their daily routines and said awareness programmes such as “Sundays on Cycle” motivate citizens to adopt healthier lifestyles. According to him, regular cycling can help build a fitter society while reducing dependence on motor vehicles.
Cycling way of life supports fitness and sustainability
Highlighting the significance of World Bicycle Day, Shukla said the occasion recognises cycling as an affordable mode of transport, an environmentally friendly means of travel, and an effective fitness activity.
He noted that greater use of bicycles could help reduce traffic congestion and contribute to the development of healthier and more sustainable cities. Furthermore, he said cycling aligns with the broader objectives of the Fit India Movement by encouraging active lifestyles and community participation.
The Governor stressed that adopting cycling as a daily habit would benefit both individual health and the environment. He called upon citizens to support efforts aimed at creating cleaner and healthier urban spaces.
Ministers Duddilla Sridhar Babu and Vakiti Srihari, Sports Advisor Jitender Reddy, Sports Authority of Telangana Chairman Shivasena Reddy, Special Chief Secretary Jayesh Ranjan, and SATG Vice-Chairperson and Managing Director Soni Bala Devi were among those who attended the programme.
