Cyberabad drunk driving crackdown nets 245 offenders in weekend drive

Hyderabad: Cyberabad Traffic Police arrested 245 motorists during a weekend drunk driving crackdown, stepping up enforcement against driving under the influence across its jurisdiction.

The Cyberabad Traffic Police conducted the special drive over the weekend and targeted violators across categories. Two-wheeler riders accounted for 197 cases. Officers also booked 36 four-wheelers and 12 three-wheelers. They did not book any heavy vehicle drivers during the operation.

Drunk driving crackdown reveals BAC-based violations

Authorities classified offenders based on Blood Alcohol Concentration levels. As many as 196 individuals recorded BAC levels between 36 mg/100 ml and 200 mg/100 ml. Meanwhile, 28 offenders registered levels between 201 mg/100 ml and 300 mg/100 ml. Another 21 individuals showed dangerously high BAC levels between 301 mg/100 ml and 550 mg/100 ml.

Officials confirmed that authorities will produce all offenders before the court for further legal proceedings.

The police reiterated that drunk driving remains a serious criminal offence. They warned that anyone who drives under the influence and causes a fatal accident will face charges under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. Section 105 deals with culpable homicide not amounting to murder and carries a maximum punishment of 10 years imprisonment along with a fine.

Court disposals reflect enforcement impact

Officials also reported that courts disposed of 189 drunk driving cases between April 20 and April 25, 2026. Courts assigned fines and social service to two offenders. They imposed fines only on 187 individuals. No court awarded combined jail and fine punishment during this period.

These enforcement figures show continued monitoring and strict legal follow-up by traffic authorities to curb violations.
